The Quay Coronets Morris Dancers started in the summer of 1971. The idea came from a few children playing in the street after watching Morris Dancing at the local fete's.
Debbie Mckeon asked her mum to help find a dance troupe for her to go to but none were available locally, so Jen Mc keon
(Debbie's mum) started The Quay Coronets, which was later
named by Jen's Husband Len.
The first display was for the local church. We had dresses of purple and white crimpoline. We have always had dresses in purple and white or purple and contrasting shades since. Purple has become our symbol colour.
We did a sponsored walk from Rhyl to raise money for our first bus and spent many a weekends cleaning and polishing it even helping to paint it! (Purple & White of course!)
The Coronet has also been a symbol to us through the years. We have even had coronet designed on our dresses.
Just recently we have adopted a slogan "DIM RHOI MEWN" which translated means "never give in", or as we like to think keep on trying, and we'll be back fighting!!!
"THATS HOW IT ALL BEGAN"
Lets hope it's many years before we find out how it all ended !!
